BMW 3 Series
BMW is taking a different styling direction on the 6th-gen 3 Series that’s expected to pop-up in the automotive scene in 2011-2012. As seen in the CGI, the future 3-Series draws its inspiration from the impressive CS Concept but thanks to its compact dimensions, it looks sportier and sexier than the 5.1-meter long concept. Maybe it’s a bit too early for any final conclusions concerning the design-road BMW's taking for the next 3-Series, but dreaming never hurt anybody.
BMW’s changes are equally restrained, with new colors and materials as well as additional storage. A new stereo includes an 80-gig hard drive, USB input and optional iPod connector, while the nav system sports an 8.8-in. display. In addition the new 3 will be available with ConnectedDrive, the automaker’s new EDGE-speed, in-car Internet access system, and now routes planned on the Internet can be fed directly into the 3′s nav system, saving the hassle of inputting destinations manually, push, and tilt motions. Major functions also can be accessed via four direct-select buttons, and much of the system is now voice-activated.
BMW CEO Confirms New tii Models in the Works
In an interview with Car Magazine, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed that a range of tii performance options will soon be available on BMW smaller models, specifically the 1 and 3-series.
There have been rumors that BMW was working on an M1 version of the new 1-series, but Reithofer confirmed that, that vehicle is not in the works. The tii spec 1-series will be the most performance oriented 1-series. He feels the the 135i is fast enough with its 0-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds.
There will also most likely be a tii model for the revised 3-series that is going to come out this summer. The revised 3-series is going to receive very mild updates. According to Car Magazine the tii version is going to use the same brakes as the M3. It will also feature 19" wheels, a sports suspension and a twin-clutch transmission
